Pearl Couscous Experiment

Recently Mel has seen pearl couscous served at different restaurants and was curious if it's difficult to make.  So she picked some up at the store, along with some shrimp and cucumbers/corn for a light summer meal.  Turns out the pearl couscous is just as easy to make as the regular kind, and paprika with a bit of olive oil and fresh dill adds great flavor to cucumber/corn salad!  (Still working on how to get the shrimp to be a bit more spicy.)

  1. pearl couscous is also called Isreali couscous (don't know why). I like it infinitely more than regular couscous, which always seems to suck ALL of the moisture out of my mouth in a very unpleasant way.

Even more fun is something Shannon turned me on to called Harvest Grains from Trader Joes. It's a combo of pearl couscous, red quinoa and orzo pasta. It cooks up fast and easy, and the different grains make for a cool texture/flavor mix. It helps that it's like $2 a bag too :-)
