Sandwich Bliss: 925 Nuevo's Cubano's in Florida

We took a short trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida just to soak in a bit more warmth before deep winter sets in.  As we've mentioned before, we've been obsessed with trying cubano sandwiches ever since the movie Chef made them look so mouth-wateringly good.  Our original plan was to go to the actual restaurant where they filmed a scene for the movie, but the drive to Miami would have been a bit long with traffic.  So we Googled the "best cubano in Fort Lauderdale" and came upon this gem:  925 Nuevo's Cubano's

It wasn't too far from our hotel at all, so we were excited to make it an early dinner adventure.  What we didn't realize is that there isn't actually indoor seating and it's on a very busy road.  Attempting to sit on bar stools with our hands full of sandwich while trying to keep a toddler from running to look at the cars didn't seem like the best idea.

So we ordered two cubanos to go.  There was a bit of a wait - about 20 minutes - but once the aroma of the slow-cooked pork filled the car we knew it was going to be worth it.

After one bite, we looked at each other and agreed we NEVER knew what a true cubano was supposed to taste like until that moment.  Utterly amazing.  The slow cooked pork was another level of perfection, to the point where toward the end of his sandwich DJ actually took out the cold cut ham so he could fully enjoy it.

We wish we could get sandwiches like this up north, but we realize if we want the real deal we might just have to be in Florida.  It's cool; all the more reason to go back sooner than later!
