Take-Out from Taco Mix

DJ is always on the quest for awesome Mexican food.  If he suddenly says he has a food craving, 9 times out of 10 you can be sure it's for Mexican.  He came across an article in Time Out NY listing the 30 Best Tacos, and realized one of the spots is super close by.  So on a Saturday afternoon, we made a quick run uptown to grab some tacos from Taco Mix.

The spot itself is super tiny.  Just enough room for a row of people to stand at the counter placing orders while another row of people stands behind them at another counter to eat.  Nothing out of the ordinary for small delis across the city.  But because this place has such a stellar reputation, there's rarely a break in the crowd.  (Thankfully you can also order through the window from outside.)

All the reviews say the "Al Pastor" (pork) tacos are the best, so we got a bunch of those to-go and raced back home to enjoy them while they were still hot.

Verdict:  totally worth the trip!  The pork was seasoned beautifully and perfectly tender, the taco shells were fresh and thick enough to hold up to the sauce, and the toppings (including fresh pineapple and raw onions) really brought all the flavors together.  Considering how close this place is, there's no doubt we'll be returning when taco cravings hit.
