Barcelona: La Boqueria and El Quim

Every Travel Channel and foodie show we've seen about Barcelona mentions La Boqueria - a large public market off La Rambla.

Most of La Boqueria is comprised of food vendors of all kinds.

There are also a few spots amidst the aisles where you can actually sit down to eat.  So when we saw two seats open up at the bar of El Quim, we hopped on and got ready for a taste adventure.

The beauty of this place is that it's just another booth in the middle of all the action, so you have a fun atmosphere coupled with all the fresh ingredients from nearby vendors.  The guys working there are all stuck behind the counter (quite amazing to see them work around each other in such tight quarters)...
the kitchen & staff are behind the glass case featuring some of the day's specials

so they have the ordering system down to a simple science: get paper menu in your language, check off what you want, hand it to someone, and let your mouth begin to water.

We of course got the patatas bravas, and they were undoubtedly the BEST we've ever had.  EV-ER.

Then Mel got "the freshest baby squid", a favorite of hers in places known for good seafood.  The squid itself was so tender (nothing like the chewy mess you can sometimes get), and the sauce was absolutely amazing.

DJ got the Quim style bull's tail, which was fall-off-the-bone tender and hearty.

La Boqueria was such a fun experience, and we're glad we could enjoy it a bit longer by staying for a meal!
