Madrid Day 2: Casanis and Sightseeing

We're in full relaxation mode so we started our day around 1pm with a lovely lunch at Casanis, another fab find of DJ's.

Even though we thought we were finally on par with this late-meal business, we were once again the first and only ones in the restaurant. Ay dios mio! But, at least we had the full attention of the chef once again - a nice guy who walked us through the menu.

After deliberating for a bit and admiring the quaint setting... we decided to get tinto de verrano - a summery blend of red wine and lemon/lime seltzer - since they did not have sangria. Very tasty, but very sweet.

Then the waiter brought over complimentary chicken liver pâté. How kind! We then started our meal with a Greek salad for Mel and pumpkin gazpacho for DJ. The salad was what one would expect, but the gazpacho was out of this world.

DJ followed up with the Argentine sirloin with chimichurri sauce and Mel got the butterfish.

Verdict: Spain is for meat-lovers!!! Both dishes were spiced and grilled to absolute perfection.

Before we took off, the owner was kind enough to offer us a digestif to help us on our journey. Love it!

And help on our journey it did! We spent the rest of the day wandering and seeing the sights:

Puerta de Alcala

Parque del Buen Retiro ("El Retiro")

Monumento Alfonso XII

Palacio Real
