Rome Day 1: Enoteca Barberini

It was our first day in Rome and we had just one mission: to stay awake.

We took the red-eye flight which meant several things:
1. We left NYC at 7:30 at night.
2. We arrived in Rome at 9:15 in the morning.
3. We slept a grand total of approximately 30 minutes in a 24 hour period.

But we knew that if we slept upon arrival we'd never overcome jet lag. So we pushed through the fatigue and wandered around the Hotel IQ (awesome hotel, by the way) until we found Enoteca Barberini. We actually were trying to find its neighboring restaurant which had great reviews (Colline Emiliane), but they were closed until evening. Fortunately, Barberini did not disappoint.

Our server was so pleasant and multilingual - a godsend in our sleepy state.

First, we tried our first Negronis of the trip.
Verdict: cool, but bitter. Mel will likely not order it again.

Then for our first and only meal of the day, we started off with prosciutto and melon (so refreshing!)...

Mel went for the vegetarian lasagna (light on sauce and noodles done to perfection)...

and DJ tried one of the savory pizzas.

This place was indeed a happy accidental discovery on our first day in Rome. What a stroke of luck for two weary travelers!
