England Day 1: British Library and O'Neill's

We made it back across the pond to London to start off a 10-day journey for work and leisure.  The work?  Mel attending the International Academic Forum European Conference on Education in Brighton, England, and then visiting/researching some of the most historic European libraries in England and Austria.  The leisure?  Seeing the Bhauras and taking in the sights!

First stop:  London.  We spent just one night at a lovely bed and breakfast near King's Cross.  They provided a tasty traditional English breakfast to help us knock out the jet lag.

Then, it was time to check out the British Library before catching our train to Brighton.

Pretty amazing library that was just recently renovated to accommodate modern needs (Internet, cafes, and exhibits) with historic archives preserved from the Reading Room at the British Museum.
Our favorite feature?  The stand up desk.  SO COMFY and ergonomic!!

Though the food at the library's cafe looked fabulous, we hopped across the street to O'Neill's for some pub fare.  Years ago when Mel did her study abroad in London, her first meal was a disappointing jacket potato.  They put the cheese and cole slaw all inside the hot potato, creating a strange curdling of cheese and mayo.  Over a decade later, she decided to give the jacket potato a shot at redemption.  Verdict?  Thank goodness the coleslaw was separate this time, but the mayo still tasted warm and curdled.  :-/  It is safe to say, Mel does not like jacket potatoes.

Fortunately, DJ quite enjoyed his meal of bangers and mash, so the place wasn't a total bust.  :)

Let's face it; not many go to England for its cuisine.  But perhaps Brighton can prove that theory wrong?  All aboard to the beach town!
